About Me

Kandis Hutcherson is an emerging writer/director. Although her primary interest is fiction, she views documentary as a necessary tool for increasing awareness of marginalized communities and preserving history and culture. Often blurring the lines between genres and forms, her style can best be described as creative non-fiction. Kandis received her B.A. in Creative Writing at Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA followed by an M.F.A in Film and Media Arts at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. While at Temple, she earned certificates in Teaching in Higher Education and Entrepreneurship. She also co-produced the documentary Growing Old Gracefully: The Transgender Experience, which won a Leeway Arts and Change Grant. Her thesis film Nebula was awarded the University Completion Grant.  Her first job in Los Angeles was assisting director Michelle Danner. Kandis currently works at DreamWorks Animation and an independent documentary production company, Night Fire Films. When not at work, she can be found at the beach, on the dance floor, reading tarot, or hanging with her cats Didier Saint Luc XIV and Jaguar Puma Jones. E-mail Kandis!
